Jason Santana and Austin Blazevic both hit two-run singles in the third inning Sunday, enabling Future Elite to pull away from the Glenview Blaze for a 9-3 victory in the championship game of the Battle of the Sandlot tournament in Evanston.
Future Elite, which swept through all five tourney games with an undefeated record, already was nursing a 3-2 lead when No. 4 and No. 5 hitters Santa and Blazevic delivered as part of a four-run third.
Blazevic went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the winners, who also got two hits from Brian Von Duser and Michael Ruffalo as part of an 11-hit attack.
Winning pitcher Nick Dalesandro scattered four hits in his five-inning stint, and reliever Keith Hayes added two scoreless relief innings on the mound.
Glenview's Nick Mandera hit a two-out, two-run double in the second. The losers added another run in the in the fourth on a hit batter, a walk and a one-out infield hit by Ben Samborn.
In the semifinals, Glenview eliminated the Cary Trojans by a 6-5 margin while Future Elite clipped the DuPage Dragons 7-4.
