Sammy Visconti delivered a bases-loaded double in the first inning and pitched four scoreless innings as New Trier Thunder Green built an early lead, then hung on for a 9-7 victory over Windy City Steel Sunday in the championship game of The Show 15-under wood bat tournament at Evanston.
Visconti's two-run double came after Windy City starting pitcher Sean Robertson issued three straight walks to start the game. All told, four Windy City hurlers combined to yield a total of 12 walks, nine hits and two hit batsmen.
Winning pitcher Visconti also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second. He departed the mound with a 9-0 advantage before Windy City rallied for three runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh against the Green bullpen.
Ricky Samuelson, Nolan Stojentin and David Richman each had two hits for New Trier.
Windy City's Stew Nelson went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double, and teammate Mark Muellner drove in three runs.
In the semifinals, Windy City advanced with an 8-2 triumph over Lakeside Legends Red, while New Trier pounded out 13 hits --- including three apiece by Josh Dunn and Stojentin --- in a 10-4 romp over the Illinois Braves.
